[9/1/93: This is *really* obsolete now--it might even be deleted soon.]
[1/14/93: Minor update for group scan mode at the end.]

A quick guided tour of some strn features.
---------------------------
[Notes: 'c' is used to indicate the single character c. Longer text
to be typed verbatim will be on a separate line. '^c' means type control-c.]

* If you haven't backed up your .newsrc file recently, now would be a
very good time to do so. (I haven't received any reports of strn
damaging a .newsrc, but I won't guarantee anything.)

* Start up strn. (You can use any options from trn.)

* In the newsgroup selection level, go to a group with some unread
articles (preferably about 200 or so, more if your terminal can
display many lines.) Choose a group you don't usually read, so that
you can delete some articles.

* When you reach the selected group, type ';' to enter Article Scan mode.
You should briefly see some text about "Scoring articles..." and then
you will enter Article Scan mode.

Basic Article Scan commands:

* Once you enter Article Scan, try typing the following commands:
    'a' Toggle author display.
    '#' Toggle article # display
TAB Toggle #-of-followups display (includes current article).
This command may take some time to execute. You may see a
"spincursor" ("/-\|" characters) which will indicate that STRN
is still working on the last command.
'n' Move pointer to next article.
'p' Move pointer to previous article.
'>' Move to next screen of articles.
'<' Move to previous screen of articles.
'h' Print help for Article Scan

* Now, move the pointer to an article you would like to display.
Press the SPACE bar. You will start reading the selected article. If
you continue to type SPACE, you will read the rest of the articles in
the same "thread" and then return to Article Scan mode. If you wish to
return to Article Scan before reading the rest of the "thread", type ';'.
(You can type ';' almost anywhere to get to Article Scan.)

More advanced features:

* Try some of the following commands:
'F' Fold mode toggle. (This may take some time to execute.) In
Fold mode only the first article in a subject-thread is shown.
The word "Fold" will appear/disappear in the top status bar.
Make sure that "Fold" does *not* appear in the top status bar before
	continuing with this guided tour.
'f' follow mode toggle. The only immediately obvious effect of this
command is that "follow" will appear/disappear in the top
status bar. When reading articles, if follow mode is on
("follow" is in the top status bar), the default action at the
end of an article will be to "follow" the thread. If follow mode
is off, the default action will be to return to Article Scan mode.
'U' Unread/Unread+read toggle. Controls which articles will be
shown in Article Scan mode. (Make sure the top status bar says
"unread" and not "unread+read" before continuing.)
'^N' (control-N) Jump to next article with the same subject.
'^P' Jump to previous article with the same subject.
    '^L' or '^R' Redraw screen.

* Simple article deletion:
'j' Junks this article. (If "Fold" is on, junk all articles in
	this subject thread.)
',' or 'k' Junks this article and all following ones with the same subject.

Marking articles:

* Find a few articles you would like to read. Move the pointer to
each of these articles and type 'm' (mark article to read). Then type
SPACE. You will start reading the first article you marked with 'm',
(and if "follow" is on, it's followups), then the next article you
marked, and so on.

[12/03/92: More to come later. Time to get another release out the door!]

Group scan mode:
Type ':' (colon) at the newsgroup selection level. Type 'h'
for a command list. Have fun. Read the file scangroup for a lot more
information. Hopefully I'll get around to writing more later.
